From Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears to Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande, creating a signature scent has become somewhat of a rite of passage for a pop star. And for Tate McRae, it was a milestone she was particularly excited to reach. (And one that called for a new little party dress.)
On Thursday night, the “Sports Car” singer celebrated the launch of her debut fragrance, Tate 01, with a New York City event and a slinky silver minidress. Courtesy of Saint Laurent, the slip featured thin spaghetti straps and a cowl neckline, with a dramatic open back. She mixed her metals, wearing gold laced stiletto sandals and carrying a black clutch with gold hardware (both also Saint Laurent).

Her blonde hair was parted at the side and pinned out of her face, and for makeup, she went with bold smokey eyes and a soft glossy lip.

“I’ve been working on [Tate 01] for like a year now. I’ve always wanted to do a perfume, I feel like it’s such a pop star thing. You have to do it at some point,” she told Jimmy Fallon earlier this week. “I was cooking up in the lab, doing all the scents.”

The result was a woody fragrance, with notes of bergamot, sage, amber, and sandalwood. And while some artists have opted for playful novelty bottles, McRae housed her scent in something sleek and elevated—a shape that was mirrored in the silver pendant necklace she wore to the late-night celebration.
“I’m so obsessed with the bottle, I’m so obsessed with the scent,” she said. “I can’t believe it’s out now.”
